Obituary for Doris “Peg” E. Galpin Doris “Peg” E. Galpin, 89 of Meco, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 with family by her side. Born on September 11, 1928 in Flat Creek NY, she was the daughter of the late Maynard and Alma Abel Folmsbee. Peg was a proud graduate of Gloversville High School where she participated in sports and pledged a sorority.
After graduation Peg pursued an education in nursing, was employed in human res for Karg Brothers Leather for 30 years and later retired from Gates Mills. After retirement Peg continued working for the Town of Johnstown, Town Hall. Peg was a proud long time resident of Meco, in which the presence of she and Bill both became a staple.
Peg was predeceased by her husband William G. Galpin Jr., in 2016, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage and two loving sons, Mark and Mike. Peg and Bill had an honorable love that will carry on. Peg was a gracious and devoted wife to Bill, mother to Mark and Mike, grandmother to her grandchildren, aunt to her nieces and nephews and a true inspiration to all who crossed in her path.
As a young wife and mother, Peg began making her mark on our small community, while being voted the first woman to serve on the Board of Directors for the Johnstown YMCA, as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the Pop Warner Football League. Additionally, Peg took great pride in her membership, as an elected seat, to The Daughters of the American Revolution. After watching her sons grow, Peg furthered her impact on our community by pursing her true passion for animals.
The outcome of her shared passion is visible in what is now the Regional Animal Shelter, where Peg sat on the Board of Directors. Throughout Peg’s 89 years, she enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, volleyball, caring for and riding horses, and the love of her German Shepherds. Peggy’s love for dogs, specifically her shepards, was a large part of who she was in her later years; as she and Bill raised several together.
As a grandmother, Peg created experiences and actualized dreams for her granddaughters. For every xxoo, blown kiss over the phone, absolute gratitude, love and respect. Doris is survived by her eldest son Mark Galpin (Sue) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, her youngest son Michael Galpin(Kelly) of Gloversville, granddaughters Melissa Galpin-Delisle(Tommy), Monica Quirk(Mike), Jennifer Martinez(Ron), Andrea Bovee(Luke), Kayla Muscato(Chanel) and Mariah Morey.
Also survived by Doris, is her sister-in-law Shirley Galpin, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, for whom she loved with all her heart. Doris was predeceased by two brothers Earl Folmsbee and Guy Folmsbee as well as her sisters Irene Woltman, Ruth Healy, Dorothy Williams and Alma Ruth Folmsbee.
