August 24, 1927—June 10, 2018 Doris Jean Smith was born August 24, 1927 in her family home on Peoria Road in Linn County, Oregon. She was raised by parents, Edwin R. Smith and Eva Marie Jochimsen-Smith on a farm near Oakville, Oregon along with her brothers Floyd, Glen, and Clifford Smith. She went to Peoria Elementary School and finished her education at Corvallis High School.

Doris married Richard D. Pimm in 1947 after meeting him at Boston Mill near Shedd, Oregon where she worked as a secretary. They spent their first four years together living in a drafty piece of an old war interment barracks near Eden, Idaho, having won it and a parcel of unimproved land there in a post-war drawing. They lived mostly on wild sage hens, dried beans, and onions.

While there, Doris moved rocks from the fields, plugged holes in their house walls, and bore two sons. From there, the Pimms moved to Shedd, Oregon where there daughter was born. Doris and Richard raised their family there and farmed grass seed and blueberries.

Doris introduced blueberries to Linn County and the surrounding area in the early 1960s. They took berries door to door to show them to people because they were a strange new product in the Willamette Valley. Ag professors from Oregon State University took students to the farm to learn from her.

She produced more than 100 tons of blueberries each summer from her 10 acres of berries and employed hundreds of youngsters from Linn and Benton Counties as berry pickers over the years. In the early 2000s, Richard and Doris moved to Port Angeles, Wa. and helped with their son-in-law’s and daughter’s tiny farm.

Doris was known in the community as “Grandma” at Angel Crest Gardens where she helped grow, sell, and farm flowers. Her beloved Richard died in 2010, but she continued on, working each day in the greenhouses and the fields. To family and friends Doris was best known for her love, her prayer, faith, and quiet way, and for her hard work and meatloaf.

She was such an exquisite gift! Doris is survived by brothers Floyd (Betty Jo) Smith and Clifford (Janice) Smith; her three children, Jack (Bonny) Pimm of Shedd Oregon, John (Debbie) Pimm of Milk River Alberta, Canada, and Linda Moffitt (David) of Port Angeles, Washington; nine grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren all of whom she could name. Her final home-going will be celebrated at Brownsville Baptist Church at 11am Tuesday June 19th.

A viewing will be from 4 to 7pm Monday at Fisher Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to The Philippines Mission at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Port Angeles, or to Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, Washington, both of whom helped us so much on this ending journey To send flowers or a remembrance gift to the family of Doris Pimm, please visit our Tribute Store.
