Terrel Verno Johnson , November 14, 1927 — June 22, 2018

Terrell “Slim” Johnson, 90, of Albany, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 at his home. Slim was born to Joseph and Pearl Johnson in Norwood, Missouri at home on November 14, 1927 which was his brother, Darrell’s 6th birthday. Darrell said Terrell “Slim” was his best birthday present.

He lived on the farm in Norwood with his parents and brother Darrell and sister Carol. Slim was the youngest of 3 children. In 1945 he moved with his mother and stepdad to Caldwell, Idaho.

In 1951 or ’52 they all moved to Oregon. Albany was the town and he lived there since. His first job in Albany was at Jim’s Auto Service on Santiam Highway.

He continued in the auto and truck repair business, opening up his own business with a partner in 1962. Over the years he moved a couple of times to different locations, but his faithful customers followed him. After his retirement in 1988 he still received calls at home from former customers.

He was well liked and was trustworthy. On April 26, 1957 he married Joyce Brown. They were married 61 years.

They had two great kids, Crystal and Mike. He was an avid reader until in his mid 80’s his eye sight was failing and he missed that a great deal. In his younger and midlife he loved to Salmon fish over on the Siletz River, as well as Kokanee fishing at Green Peter.

In 1971 Slim and Joyce bought 7 acres out in the country and built a new home there. He always had a huge garden. Slim shared the produce with family and friends.

His dad always said if you share with others the man upstairs will bless you with more next year. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Crystal Walker of Seattle, Washington; son, Mike Johnson and wife Chanthy of Albany; and granddaughter, Emily Johnson. Slim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Darrell “Dee” Johnson; sister, Carol Johnson; and stepdad Emmett Scott; as well as brother-in-law, Don Brown.

He always had a great story to tell and people so enjoyed listening to them. He could tell a half dozen or so jokes in a row, one after the other. “We are all going to miss him!

” A memorial service will be at 2:00pm, Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Fisher Funeral Home.
