Obituary for Dorothy Ann McGillis (Mason) Dorothy Ann McGillis 85 of Lake George, Michigan passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Dorothy was born August 7, 1932 in St. Johns, Michigan the daughter of Frank and Pauline (Scholl) Mason. On December 17, 1949 in Lansing, Michigan, Dorothy was united in marriage to Mr. James Arthur McGillis.

Mr. McGillis preceded Dorothy in death on December 5, 2012 after sixty- two years of marriage. Mrs. McGillis had resided in the Lake George area since 1989, coming from Lansing. Dorothy was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Harrison, life member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 116 of Lansing and Harrison Women of the Moose Chapter 1804 and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 408 of Harrison.

Dorothy was an avid reader, and bird watcher, enjoying the quiet time to reflect on the book she was reading or the birds she was watching. She also enjoyed vegetable and floral gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and volunteering her time at the Moose Lodge. Surviving Dorothy are her loving children, four daughters; Belinda Cipko and husband David of Harrison, Christine Rogers and husband Robert of Grand Ledge, Michigan and formerly of DeWitt, Michigan, Sandra Vliet and husband David of Lake, Michigan and Penny Batten and husband Ralph of Lansing, Michigan, three sons; Robert McGillis and wife Diane of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, Scott McGillis and wife Shannon of Georgia, Vermont and Steven McGillis and wife Patricia of Portland, Texas, thirty one grandchildren, fifty one great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, one sister, Margaret Jones of Diamondale, Michigan, numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, plus many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Mrs. McGillis also was preceded in death by her parents, one son, James R. McGillis, one granddaughter, Kelly S. Tomlin and two grandsons; James J. McGillis and Bryan K. Rogers. Funeral Mass celebrating Mrs. McGillis will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Harrison with Fr. J. Marcel Portelli officiating.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. from Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing. Memorial gifts in memory of Mrs. McGillis may be considered to: St. Athanasius Catholic Church.
