Dorothy Jean (Strahm) Van Buskirk, 88, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on July 8th, 2018, following a brief illness, at The Homestead at Logan Acres Community, surrounded by her loving family. Born June 28, 1930, in Kenton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Christian and Florence E (Stevenson) Strahm. Dorothy graduated Salutatorian from Ridgeway High School, and then later attended Northwestern Business School in Lima, Ohio.

The majority of her career was spent in banking, and she retired as a vice president of Colonial Federal Savings and Loan. She was an active community volunteer, and spent countless hours serving with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Weekday Religious Education, Mended Hearts, and Our Daily Bread. She served on the Democratic Central Committee and worked as a poll volunteer for many years.

She was also a longtime member and elder emeritus at the First Christian Church in Bellefontaine. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, D. Richard (Dick) Van Buskirk of Bellefontaine, and her daughter, Brenda (Jim) Sanford of Bellefontaine. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Kristen (Caleb) Lang of Bellefontaine and Kileen (Drew) Sprouse of Hilliard.

She adored her four great-grandchildren, Elliett Lang, Bennett Lang, Nora Sprouse, and Maren Sprouse. She is also survived by several sisters- and brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers, Phillip (Ruth) Strahm, Harold (Helen) Strahm, Carl (Goldie) Strahm, and Roy Strahm.

Dorothy had an ornery streak, and she loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was compassionate and generous. She instilled her deep faith, strength, courage and dedication to service in her family, and she will be greatly missed.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 15th from 2 to 5 p.m at the Eichholtz, Daring, & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 321 North Main Street, Bellefontaine. Funeral services will be conducted on July 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Eichholtz, Daring, & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Bellefontaine. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty.
