Dorothy’s Obituary A Time To Be Born Dorothy was born on February 22, 1950 to Mrs. Mildred Walker in Coahoma County. She was educated in the Clarksdale Public School system and attended Coahoma Junior College. She confessed her love of the Lord at an early age and served in her home church of New Morning Star M.B. Church.
She taught in the Clarksdale Public School Systems until she left with her family for a military life. The family settled in San Antonio, TX. A Time To Sow Dorothy united with New St. Mark Baptist Church in 1991 where she served faithfully until her health failed her.
In serving the Lord, she served as a Choir member, Leader of Baptist Training Union (BTU), Leader of Welcome and Hospitality, Leader of an Evening with the Angels, served on the Kitchen committee and on many other ministries. She will be greatly missed! !
There was no task ever too small for her to do or participate in. A Time To Build Dorothy began working for AT&T in 1987, San Antonio, TX. She later transferred with AT&T in 2001 to Louisiana for a very short time.
She then relocated to Columbus, OH until retirement in 2009. A Time To Love Dorothy loved her family. She had a sweet spirit and a beautiful smile.
Dorothy loved her daughter, LaTonya (Nay/Nay-Nay) and they were inseparable; they served together in many capacities at New St. Mark. She loved to cook especially for the family’s Thanksgiving dinner. Dorothy made a bad Lemon Meringue Pie and the homemade cornbread dressing was something to shout about.
She also made the best potato salad and spaghetti salad on this side of heaven A Time To Transition When Dorothy received the diagnosis in October 2018; she immediately called her sister, La Verne to come to her home and they had a sister to sister talk. She asked La Verne to inform the family as well as her daughter. La Verne immediately did what the big sister said to do.
Dorothy began the fight! ! As the journey continued, Nay (Rodney), La Verne, Mike (Carolyn), Shirley, Jimmy and Dorothy’s mother came together.
She announced at Thanksgiving dinner a prayerful decision to fight on. As a family in love with one another, Shirl became her caregiver and other family members had roles they played. The family begin to fellowship(eat) and pray on the weekends with friends at either Dorothy’s home or La Verne’s.
The Lord so privileged the family to have this time with her until He saw her getting tired. Dorothy received her Love Letter from the Lord on Saturday, March 23, 2019. Even on her transitioning day, the family decided to fellowship in celebration of her life along with friends.
She fought the good fight and is now with the Lord! Preceded in death by brother, Steve White; sister, Pauline Harris; and aunts, Bertha Paige and Arbell Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, La Tonya (Rodney); her mother, Mildred Walker of Clarksdale, MS; two sisters: La Verne (SA, TX) and Shirley of Clarksdale, MS; four brothers: Michael (Carolyn) of Austin, TX, Ronnie of Jackson, MS, Jimmy and Bobby of Clarksdale; a niece: Diamond, nephews: Fernando (Pearl), John, Jr. and Norman (Marquita); brother-in-law, John Harris, Sr. and other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
