Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy T. “Dot” Wessel, 100, of Madison, will be 10:30 a.m., Monday at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Madison. Celebrants will be Reverend Gregory Carl, Monsignor Ralph Steffensmeier, Reverend Jerry Connealy, Deacon Al Wolverton and Deacon Tim Howard. Burial will be in St. Leonard’s Catholic Cemetery at Madison, NE.

Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, July 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. rosary. The Resseguie Funeral Home of Madison is in charge of the arrangements. Dorothy passed away on July 3, 2018, at the Stanton Health Center in Stanton, Nebraska.

She was born September 14, 1917, in Humphrey, NE, the daughter of Stephen and Mary (Wemhoff) Foltz. She was raised on the family farm near Humphrey, NE. On May 22, 1943, Dorothy married Myron D. “Mike” Wessel at St. Mary of the Angels Church, Humphrey, NE.

She was a parishioner of St. Leonard’s Catholic Church, Madison, NE, and was an active member of St. Leonard’s Guild and Christian Mothers. Dot was noted for the delicious apple pies she baked. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.

They were her “Sunshine” and spending time with them was her greatest joy. Dorothy has seven children: Carol Armbruster (Dal, deceased), of Stanton, Val Wessel, of Madison, Joan (Wally) Sonnenschein, of Norfolk, Ken Wessel, of Madison, Bill (Jane) Wessel, of Stanton, Marilyn (Jim) Jensen, of Norfolk. She has twelve grandchildren: Amy, Angela, Karrie and Kevin (Katy) Armbruster; Doug Sonnenschein; Mickie (Phil) Halloran; Becky (Colby) Svoboda, Tony and Jeremy Wessel; Rachael, Nick and Mark Jensen.

Dorothy also has seven great-grandchildren: Josh, Jake and Sam Armbruster: Kelly Sonnenschein; Miles and Will Halloran; and Emmie Svoboda. Dot’s siblings are Wilfred Foltz, of Rosholt, SD, and two sisters—Sister Valeria Foltz, of Huntington, IN, and Philamae Zabawa, of Omaha, NE; three sisters-in-law—Eileen Wessel, of Madison, Arlene Wessel, of Lindsay, and Betty Wessel, of Columbus. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Mike (May 10, 2001); parents—Stephen and Mary Foltz; sisters—Ludwina Foltz and Eleanor Eisenmenger; brothers—Clem, Joe, Bill, Alfred, Henry, Paul and Stan; one infant daughter, Christine; one granddaughter, Tina Wessel; one granddaughter-in-law, Emilie Sonnenschein and one son-in-law, Dal Armbruster.
