Obituary for Dorothy Therese Reaume Dorothy Therese Reaume, age 86, of Royal Oak, passed away July 10, 2018. Dorothy was born in Detroit, MI. After graduating from St Agnes High School, Dorothy served in the United States Army as an operating room technician.
After two years in the Army, she then attended Providence School of Nursing and later University of Detroit Mercy for her master’s degree. Dorothy was licensed as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and her career took her to various locations around the country in teaching and clinical roles. Dorothy’s travels also took her around the world to places where she volunteered her time and expertise to assist others.
She was a crew member aboard the SS Hope, a hospital ship operated by Project HOPE, for multiple journeys to deliver medical care to some of the neediest spots around the world—Nicaragua and Tunisia, among others. She also participated in other medical relief trips to various locations around the globe, including to China during the 1980’s. Beyond her military service and international medical relief work, Dorothy furthered her adventurous streak as a pilot.
In fact, she flew in the Powder Puff Derby during the 1960’s, an annual transcontinental air race for women pilots inaugurated in 1947. Though she was remarkably accomplished, the most important things to Dorothy were her faith, her family, and her friends. She was adored by them, and was always able to bring a smile to their faces with her stories, her giving spirit, and her sense of adventure.
She will always be remembered for her signature salutation, “hello, hello, hello”, and for the Christmas parties she would host for her nieces and nephews. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Dorothy is survived by sixteen nieces and nephews: Rick Reaume, Julie Reaume, Ed Tisko , Chrissy Roberts, Lynn Garbacz, Becky Noseda, Tom Reaume, Ann Wright, Tom Tisko, Anne Lichtenberg, Chuck Reaume, Richard Roberts, Therese Warner, Mark Reaume, David Reaume, and Chris Reaume; and two sisters-in-law: Nancy Reaume and Mary Lou Reaume.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Mary Ellen Tisko, Thomas Reaume, Joanie Roberts, and Charles Reaume. Dorothy will lie in-state from 9:30 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, July 16, at National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica, 2100 Twelve Mile Rd. , Royal Oak.
