Dorothy W. “Dottie” Hiltz (Davenport), age 87 of Hingham, passed away on November 2, 2018 after a long illness. Dottie is survived by her husband Harry F. Hiltz, her children Hal Hiltz and his wife Sandra, Gary Hiltz, Paula White and her husband Donald, Terry Hiltz and her husband Jeff Shaw, her granddaughters Kimberly and Megan, and sister Betty Magner. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, mother-in-law and friend.

She was predeceased by her brothers John Davenport and Robert Davenport. Dottie grew up in Cohasset, MA where she graduated from Cohasset High School. She and Harry were married and they built their home in Hingham, MA.

For a brief time, Dottie worked at Liberty Mutual in Boston. For many years, Dottie was a member of a women’s club associated with the Hingham Congregational Church. She also enjoyed bowling in various candlepin leagues around the local area.

She loved children and loved taking care of people. Through the years she would make clothes and knit items for family. She also loved to bake and was well known for her cookies, Brownies & Congo bars and other tasty treats that were shared at many church functions, school events and family gatherings.

It would be a rare event not to be offered a baked good when visiting. She also enjoyed volunteering to go on school field trips and would always be in the audience for her granddaughters’ dance recitals and music concerts. After her children and granddaughters were grown up, Dottie helped raise other young children by babysitting and by being daytime nanny for many local families.

She also assisted with several elders in the community. She touched many lives, young and old, and was very generous in giving out hugs. At the family’s request, all services are private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dottie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www. alz.org) or your local chapter.
