Douglas E. Wolfe, age 82 of Waupaca, passed away Tuesday, January 29th, 2019 peacefully at home following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Doug was born May 28, 1936 in Chippewa Falls, WI to Lyman and Myra (Dillon) Wolfe. Doug was raised in New London, WI and graduated from New London High School in 1954.
After high school, he served in the US Marine Corp then attended Wisconsin Business Vocational School. In 1958, he met Patricia Laux whom he married on Oct. 1, 1960 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London.
Early in their marriage, Doug worked for his father-in-law at at Pete’s Mobile. In 1965, he started working at New London Savings & Loan where he worked until 1972 when the family moved to Waupaca where Doug served as president of Homestead Savings & Loan then Community Savings and Loan until 1987. Later Doug sold real estate with Shambeau & Lyons then worked with his son David with SBA towers.
During Doug’s working life he was active in his community. He belonged to the New London JC’s and the Waupaca JC’s, he was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the Waupaca Lions, Curling, and Country Clubs. He enjoyed the fellowship of the Drivas Coffee Club and later the Stratton’s Morning Coffee Club.
Doug’s reason for living was the family that survives him, including his wife of 58 years, Patricia Wolfe son, Steven Wolfe of Marinette daughter, Sharyl (Michael) Friedel of Waupaca their daughters, Alyse (Neil) Forcier and their son, Taiylor of Ft Collins, CO and Michelle (fiance’, Jacob Shervey) Friedel of LaCrosse son, David (Farrah) Wolfe, their daughter, Julia Wolfe of Waupaca daughter Linda (Todd) Anderson and their son, Gage Anderson of Menomonee Falls brother, Tom (Sue) Wolfe of New London sister, Jane Ann Kluge of Hortonville sister-in-law, Jeanne (Walt) Crivello of Wauconda, IL Doug was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jack Meshke, brother, Larry Wolfe and brother-in-law, Bruce Kluge. Doug is also survived by and has been preceded in death by other relatives and dear friends. The family would like to give special thanks to Doug’s brother Tom, who since his diagnosis, didn’t miss a Tuesday lunch date with him.
Special thanks also to Edna Johnson, his recent caregiver. Her help has been a blessing to Pat, Doug and the family. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Feb.
2, 2019 at 11AM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, with Pastor Jeff Fletcher, officiating. Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca from 4 PM until 7 PM and on Saturday from 9 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Wisconsin Parkinson Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
