Obituary for Douglas Newby Douglas Newby, 55, died Friday, July 13, 2018 at his home in Garden City. He was born January 4, 1963 in Ulysses, Kansas the son of Joseph & Ermalee (Tully) Newby. Douglas lived most of his life in Garden City.

He attended Garden City schools and graduated from Garden City High School in 1981. He then attended Garden City Community College. He worked as a carpenter and a chef.

He was a member of ABATE and enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. In 2003, Douglas married Lisa Davis in Garden City. She survives.

Other survivors include 2 sons Douglas G. & wife Karissa Newby of Garden City and Joseph Newby of Woodward, Oklahoma; his mother Ermalee Newby of Garden City; 2 brothers David Newby of Dallas, Texas and Jim Newby of Plano, Texas; 6 sisters Jayne Newby of Healy, Kansas, Judy Utt of Dayton, Washington, Annie Newby of Dodge City, Kansas, Sue Hertel of Garden City, Kansas, Jolene Newby of California, and Barbara Newby of Garden City, Kansas; and 3 grandchildren Karmadie Newby, Kambrie Newby, and Chance Douglas Newby. Douglas is preceded in death by his father Joseph Newby and a brother Terry Newby. A private family service will take place at a later date.

There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the Douglas Newby Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
