Obituary for Dr. Salvatore Anthony “Sam” Cordaro Dr. Salvatore A. Cordaro It is with sadness we tell you that Dr. Salvatore “Sam” Anthony Cordaro died on December 8, 2018 at home with his family. He was 94 years young. Sam was born in the Bronx, N.Y. on February 10, 1924 to his parents Francesco Cordaro and Maria Messina, emigres from Italy in the early 1900’s.

He is predeceased by his parents, brothers, sisters and their spouses. He was also predeceased by his loving wife Rita Sarnese Cordaro-Ramsay, and his sons Lawrence F., Robert J., Vincent T., and Thomas P. He is survived by his son Salvatore “Tucky” (Noreen) Cordaro of South Nyack, N.Y. He is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

After his high-school graduation Sam went on to receive his DDS from U Penn, and did his internship at the Valley Forge General Hospital. Dr. Cordaro did his post graduate training at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA; San Francisco and Berkeley, CA- US Naval Base; Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, AK; Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washington DC; Columbia Hospital and Columbia University; UNC, Chapel Hill, NC; US Public Health Center, Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Cordaro was a Dental Surgeon for the US Air Force from 1943-54.

His military career ended at the US Air Force Base in Middletown PA, and then he started his private practice in Haverstraw NY in general dentistry and oral surgery. In 1958 he became a diplomat of the NYS Board of Oral Surgery. While practicing privately in NY he was an instructor of Oral Surgery at Columbia University School of Dentistry, and the Dental Assistants Program at RCC.

After leaving NY he was a dental instructor in Coastal Carolina CC. There were various hospital appointments in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Suffern, Nyack, Pomona. Dr. Cordaro’s accomplishments include numerous civil service appointments, publications for the UNC, memberships in many dental societies of NY and Saudi Arabia.

Also, consulting oral surgeon positions as well as Chair Appointments in the US and the Middle East. Dr. Cordaro has said his private practice in Haverstraw provided the most gratification. Sam will be remembered as a loving man of wry humor and intelligence.

Visiting will be held on Tuesday from 4PM to 7PM at the Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Ann’s RC Church in Nyack. Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
