Obituary for Robert Watkins Robert Watkins Robert Watkins fondly known as “Bobby/Uncle Bobby” passed away peacefully in his sleep at Northern Riverview Nursing Home on Monday, November 19, 2018 in Haverstraw New York. Robert was born May 25, 1941 to Vergis and Laura Watkins in Blackbottom, North Carolina. Both parents; Vergis Watkins Sr. and Laura Watkins, sister Shirley Watkins Avent and three brothers Edward Johnson, Raymond Watkins and Vergis Watkins, Jr., predeceased Robert.

He was educated at Liberty Street Elementary School and Nyack Jr/Sr High School, Nyack, NY. Later in life he took additional classes and earned a degree. He was employed by Letch Worth Village as a Resident Counselor, while employed at Letch Worth Village he was elected Union Representative of CSEA and served as President for 4 terms.

While in Office Robert was successful in saving lots of people’s jobs and helped a innumerable amount of people. Bobby retired after 20 years of service. Bobby joined the Fairmount Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Raymond C. Caliman, dedicated his life to Christ and was baptized.

Robert became an active member in the church and he was a faithful attendee at Bible study. His love for singing led him to join the Fairmount Church Choir. On Sunday, October 30, 2005 he was ordained in the office of Deacon.

Bobby took pleasure in working with the elderly, serving and helping others. He had a heart for people; especially the less fortunate. He was also involved with outreach initiatives even making monetary donations abroad to help children in Africa.

He loved to cook and enjoyed nice clothes and getting dress. He befriended Mary Harris and her two children. Her son Pancho Van Dunk held a special place in his heart; like a son.

He loved spending time with his family especially his nieces and nephews. Bobby leaves to cherish his memories are two brothers Henry L. Johnson (Geri), Richard Watkins, two sisters Maxine Rogers (Charlie) and Laura Williams; lifelong friend Mary Harris, Poncho Van Dunk and a huge host of Nephews, Nieces, Cousins and friends.
