Obituary for Dwight “Dewey” Cope Dateline: Jerseyville Dwight M. Cope, 76, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Christian North East in St. Louis, MO. Dewey was born on November 14, 1941 in Alton, IL, the son of the late Clarence M. and Dorothy Cope, Marjorie (Cox) and Arnold Byrd. He married Marjorie Ann (Minard) on December 8, 1961, at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, Illinois, she survives.

Dewey was employed as a Machinist for 42 years at Olin Corp. retiring in 2007. He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church and he has been attending the First Assembly of God Church in Jerseyville, the Machinist Union Lodge # 660 Bluff City for 50 years, Jerseyville Masonic Lodge # 0394 and the 1st Mid America Credit Union Platinum Club.

Dewey enjoyed auctions, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Along with his wife he is survived by 3 children and their spouses, Cindy (Ted) Hamilton of Florida, Angie (Craig) Brangenberg of Jerseyville and Jeff Cope of Worden; three grandchildren, Josh (Brittany) Kuehnel, Sydney Brangenberg and Garett Brangenberg; and one great grandchild on the way; and one brother and sister-in-law, Ray Gene & Julia Byrd of Godfrey. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gene Fry and two sisters, Toni Pruden and Janet Hatcher.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 9:30 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at the First Assembly of God Church in Jerseyville, 500 Cross Ave in Jerseyville, with Pastor Larry Hayes officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto will be in charge of arrangements.
