Obituary for Richard Shive Dateline: Wood River Richard Aaron Shive, 86, of Wood River, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at his residence. Richard was born on October 15, 1931, in Ashburn, MO, the son of Aaron S. and Edna Bernice (Caldwell) Shive. He married Nelrose E. Baker on August 29, 1954 in East Alton, IL.

She survives. He was a design engineer at Olin Corp. until retirement in 1986.

He was a member of Bethalto Senior Club, Wood River Senior Club, Senior Services Plus, Good Sam Club, and a lifetime member of the Alton VFW Post 1308. He was an avid musician who also enjoyed camping, traveling, dancing and golfing. Along with his wife, Richard is survived by three children, Melodie (Dave) Denson, Lisa (Darrell) Best and Tammy Whitley; two brothers, Danny (Debi) Shive and Larry (Sheila) Shive; a sister, Charlotte (Richard) Kay; seven grandchildren, Aaron Denson, Laura Denson, Levi Best, Dylan Best, Reed Best, Connor Whitley and Morgan Whitley; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Christopher Denson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Shive. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 2 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Brother Darrell Best will officiate and there will be time for family and friends to share stories and memories.

Military rites will be accorded by Alton VFW Post #1308 Ritual Team. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children and/or The Ronald McDonald House. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Richard Shive please visit our Sympathy Store.
