Earl “Don” Smith, 81, of Bardstown, passed away Monday July 16, 2018 at his residence. He was born December 8, 1936 in Amelia, Ohio, a retired salesman for Hydrotech, Inc., 1954 graduate of Batavia High School in Ohio, 1956 graduate of Ohio Mechanic Institute with a degree in electrical engineering, married Patricia J. Smith on March 8, 1957, in 1957 joined U.S. Army National Guard and served 20 years and retired as a Major, past-president of Bardstown Optimist Club, Past President of Old Kentucky Home Country Club, and member and Elder Emeritus of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Morton Smith and Mary Turner Smith; brother, William E. Smith; and sister, Erla Mae Lail.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pat Smith of Bardstown; three children, Jeffrey (Diane) Smith of Crestwood, Jeremy (Jamie) Smith of Bardstown, and Vanessa (Jason) Ballard of Celina, Texas; seven grandchildren, Dr. Ryan (Dr. Molly) Smith, Aaron Smith, Emily L. Smith, Nolan Smith, Madelyn Smith, Evan Ballard, and Carson Ballard; great-grandson, Franklin Oliver Smith; sister, Ethel May Booso of Mt. Orab, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday July 20, 2018 at First Christian Church (D.O.C.), with burial in Bardstown Cemetery.

Rev. Jim Summers and Rev. Eldon Morgan will officiate.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm Thursday July 19 at Barlow Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may go to First Christian Church (D.O.C.) Mortgage Balance or Humane Society of Nelson County.
