Edith P. Ellis, 94, passed on from this world December 8, 2018 to join the great family reunion in the sky. She was born November 27, 1924, in Arcola, Missouri. Edith was the seventh of Benjamin and Willa Ellis’ eight children.

She was raised on the family farm near Arcola during the depression and dust bowl era. She attended Arcola High School where she was valedictorian of her graduating class. She gave up her opportunity to go to college to stay on the farm to work and care for her family.

In September 1946, she married Elmer Ellis and moved to Visalia, California where they owned and operated several restaurants. The family moved to Salinas in January 1956. She then worked in the local cannery and produce sheds, as a nursing attendant at Monterey County Hospital (now Natividad Medical Center) and ended her career as a Buyer for the hospital.

After retirement, she traveled and visited family and friends. She collected bells from throughout the United States which she proudly displayed in her home and could tell the story of each one. She enjoyed gospel music and watching the hummingbirds she fed daily.

Throughout her life, good times and bad, her faith in God never wavered. She leaves behind her daughter, Renee “Lukey” (Del) Bro, son, Dale (Jenni) Ellis, her grandchildren, Amy (Taylor) Corcoran, Brian (Victoria Kelly) Ellis, Joe (Amanda) Moss, Kristi Moss, Krystal (Chris) Hurst and great-grandchildren Kelsey and Ashlyn Corcoran, Rebecca Ellis, Joe Moss, Jr., Makayla Ferro and CJ Hurst. She had a strong and loving relationship with her nephew, Billy (Elaine) Higgins of Greenfield, Missouri.

Also special to her were Jenni’s children and their families Paige McBride, Matt and Trish McBride and their children, Makenzie, Maddison and Mason, and Amanda McBride and her children, Marissa and Callie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, in October, 1973 and all of her brothers and sisters. Graveside services will be held Friday, December 14, 2018 at 1:30 pm at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott Street, Salinas, California 93901.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Rancho Cielo Youth Campus or the SPCA of Monterey County.
