Edna’s Obituary Edna Hegenauer Frankenmuth, MI Our beloved, God fearing mother, grandmother, and great grandmother went to be with Jesus on January 4, 2019. Born on May 31, 1920- One of three children of Albert and Hedwig Hecht from Reese, MI. Her sister Dorothy Zehnder, brother Raymond Hecht, and sister-in-law Arline Weiss survive her.
She attended Trinity Lutheran Church and School. She married Wyman “Hick” Hegenauer on October 12, 1941 and they were married over 70 years. Edna was a waitress at the Fischer Hotel and then dedicated 40 years of service using her baking skills at the Bavarian Inn.
Dorothy Zehnder, her sister would find new recipes and have Edna run a trial test to see if it was worth serving. She and Dorothy worked as a team judging entries in the Bavarian Inn Lodge Cookoffs and the Saginaw County Fair. Edna was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church and a lifelong member of the Ladies Aid where she served as treasurer.
Edna was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. She always enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, quilting, needle pointing, daily Bible devotions, a prayer warrior for many, attending every Bible class and church service at Independence Village, and assisted the pastor with communion for many years. Edna witnessed her faith in Jesus and cared for others while in the hospital and to her last days.
She has left her family an inspirational legacy. Her greatest joy and blessing was spending time with her family. She was known by her friends and family as the “Butterhorn Queen” because of the delicious butterhorns she baked for special events.
Edna is survived by four children; Dr. Gary (Karen) Hegenauer, Kay (Steve) List, Lyne (Dennis) Weirauch, and Randy (Cindy) Hegenauer, along with 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her husband Wyman Hegenauer and two grandchildren; Zachary and Nicholas Hegenauer pre-deceased her. Edna lived at Independence Village and enjoyed all the activities and played euchre 4-5 days a week.
She was an avid Detroit Tiger and Michigan State Spartan fan. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 10:15 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Rev.
Caleb Adams will officiate with burial between services in St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery. Edna’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the 10:15 a.m. service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Media Ministry, St. Lorenz Stephen Ministry or Hospice of Hope.
