HOLYOKE Edward C. Gates, 53, of Holyoke, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late William H. and Margaret M. (O’Connor) Gates III and was a graduate of Holyoke High School and Northland College in Wisconsin. Ed was an Environmental Analyst for the Department of Environmental Protection in Worcester.

He was a member of the John Boyle O’Reilly Club in Springfield and was an avid youth sports coach. Ed is survived by three children: Conor, Kathleen and Bryanna Gates, all of Holyoke, and two brothers: Michael and Larkin Gates. The funeral will be held Saturday, July 14th at 8:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass at 9:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street.

Burial will be in Forestdale Cemetery West, Rock Valley Road, West Holyoke. Calling Hours will be held Friday, July 13th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family asks to please omit flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Defeat GBM Research Collaborative, 54 Chapel Street, Suite 200, Newton MA 02458.

Hawaiian Shirts are greatly encouraged for Ed’s calling hours on Friday evening.
