Bernadette “Elaine” Reed August 3, 1928 – June 15, 2018 Bernadette “Elaine” Reed, 89, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 at 9:15 am in Aperion Care Arbors-Michigan City (home away from home) Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Buffalo & 10th Streets, Michigan City, Indiana with Rev. Kevin Huber officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation hours will be from 9:00 am -10:00 am, Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana. Elaine as we all knew her was born August 3, 1928 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Frank and Marie (Novitzke) Nespo.
Elaine was married for 67 years to the love of her life Robert Reed on November 12, 1949 in Michigan City, Indiana, who survives Michigan City, Indiana. She was a wonderful mother to her five children, Michael (Michaele) Reed of Waukesha, Wisconsin; Nancy (Pat) McCue of South Bend, Indiana, Susan (John) Wall of Long Beach, Indiana, Beth (Rick Yukon) Pilarski of Valparaiso, Indiana and Linda (Tony) Wintek of La Porte, Indiana; She was blessed with 21 grandchildren, Katie Wall (Danny) Bronny, Brigid Wall (Brian) McKee, Maureen Wall (Marty) Preston, Margaret Wall (Chris) Collins, Sheila Wall (Svenn) Mikkelson, Sean (Kelli) Wall, Nellie Wall (Tristen) Peffley, Nora Wall (Matt) Block, Rosemary Wall, Allison (Jim) Napoli, Christy (Matt) Bartek, Tim (Jennifer) McCue, Dan (Melissa) McCue, Meghan (Josh) McWhirter, Melissa (Craig) Minnick, Sarah (Mike) Darnell, Nicholas (Leah Averill) Reed, Shannon Reed, Jennifer (Jay) Foldenauer, Stephanie Wintek and Andrew Wintek along with 36 great-grandchildren; Elaine grew up 2nd to the youngest of 7 children Leona Bickel, Loretta Nespo, Mary Jean Olvaney, Sarah Levendoski, Lawrence Nespo, Eugene Nespo and Joseph Nespo her sisters and brothers all preceding her in death. Elaine was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and enjoyed celebrating birthdays and bringing special treats to all!
The family would like to extend our deepest love to all of the people of Aperion Care Arbors-Michigan City who cared for and loved our mother on a daily basis. They reached out not only to our mom but to all of us for many years.
