Elinor D. Brown, a longtime resident of Oak Ridge, passed away January 6, 2019 at Grand Oaks Assisted Living in Washington, DC. She was born April 18, 1924 in Millsboro, Delaware to J. Harold and Mildred Short Dobson. She grew up in Millsboro and graduated from Millsboro High School.

She graduated from Mary Washington College with a degree in English and received her Master’s in Library Science degree from Drexel Institute of Technology. After working at Dickinson College as a librarian, she came to Oak Ridge in 1952 to work at the Oak Ridge Public Library. While working there, she met Lloyd Brown, a chemist and library patron.

They were married in December 1954. After her children were in school, she took classes in elementary education at the University of Tennessee and became a librarian at Linden Elementary School until she retired in 1991. After retirement she and Lloyd traveled extensively.

She enjoyed being a docent at the Children’s Museum and volunteered for many years at Meals on Wheels. She was also active in the local chapters of AAUW and Delta Kappa Gamma. A longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, at the time of her death she was a member of First United Methodist in Oak Ridge.

She is survived by her son, Stephen Brown and his wife Margaret Simkovsky of Arlington, VA, daughter Karen Perry and her husband James of Bethesda, MD, and two beloved grandchildren Emma and Matthew Brown. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Lloyd who died in January 2016 and her sister Kathleen D. Watson. The caring companionship by her special angel Georgina Mundashi will not be forgotten.

A graveside service will be held on January 16, 2019 at noon at Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge or the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge. Electronic Condolences www.
