Obituary of Elinor Hoffert Alplaus, N.Y. – Elinor Hoffert died peacefully June 26, 2018. She was born June 20, 1925 in Seward, N.Y., the daughter of Esther (Chapman) and Henry Smith. She graduated valedictorian from Richmondville High School and later graduated from Ellis Hospital School of Nursing.

She worked at GE and Ellis Hospital until her marriage to Eugene J. Hoffert, after which she took time off to raise her family. Elinor was an active member of the Alplaus Ladies Auxiliary, the Happy Wanderers, the Scotia-Glenville Seniors, the Leisure Club and St. John the Evangelist Church. She was predeceased by her parents and husband; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Lee Benford; siblings Michael, George, and James Smith.

Survivors include three daughters Betty (David) Steenburgh, Joan (Dennis) Lannon, and Jean Story; grandchildren Lisa (Carnot) Evans, David Steenburgh, Susan Steenburgh, Colleen (Russ) Davignon, Josh Lannon, Bree (Shane) Bielawski, Brian Story, Kathleen Story, Sarah (John) Kiely, and Nathan Benford; great-grandchildren Nicholas Story, Morgan and Karen Muse, Carnot and Max Evans, Ava and Lillian Bielawski, James Lannon, and Rowan Benford. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Ellis Residential Center for six years of exemplary and loving care. Donations in Elinor’s name may be made to the Alplaus Ladies Auxiliary c/o Alplaus Fire Co., 309 Alplaus Ave.
