Elizabeth Lu Anderson of Grand Rapids passed away Tuesday January 1, 2019 at the age of 86. She was born on June 10, 1932 in Harvey, Illinois to the late Harry and Eleanor Norton. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Julie Anderson, son Charles D. Anderson, grandchildren Corey (Natalie McHale) Anderson, Samantha Anderson, Charles F. Anderson and Cody Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 1993. She was a school teacher in Park Ridge, IL, East Grand Rapids and substitute taught at Forest Hills. Liz was a volunteer for 55 years with Spectrum Health, Meijer Gardens, Blandford Nature Center and Active in Junior League.

She was a member of Delta Gamma for 55 years and Cascade Hills Country Club for 45 years. Besides being a retired teacher and active volunteer, Liz was a very dedicated wife and mother to two children. She had a long love affair with the game of Bridge, playing frequently with friends.

Some of her Bridge partners spanned over 5 decades where many close friendships were formed. Liz was an experienced traveler and had the opportunity to spend time in dozens of countries in every major hemisphere. In addition to serving many local charities, she is also credited for establishing the swim team at Forest Hills Northern as well as the “All Night Graduation” party concept which is still in existence some 37 years later.

Liz was truly the matriarch of the Anderson family in every sense of the word. Her strong spirit and wonderful sense of humor will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday January 5, 2019 at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

Following the service a luncheon and reception will take place at Watermark Country Club. The family will greet relatives and friends Friday at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charlie & Elizabeth Anderson Scholarship Fund or D.A. Blodgett-St. Johns.
