NILES – Elizabeth B. “Betty” Shimp 87, passed away peacefully at 3:30 a.m. on Monday morning March 11, 2019 at her home. Betty was born in Niles, Ohio on February 10, 1932 a daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Phillips) Boda. She retired in 1991 after working 28 years in the inspection department at General Motors Packard Electric.

Betty was a 1950 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, a member of the Southside Presbyterian Church, the Church Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society Cardinal Bells of Trumbull County. Betty’s greatest joy was spending quality time with her grandchildren. Her hobbies were bowling, bingo, casino and traveling on many cruises.

Betty and her husband Andy wintered for 14 years at Sebring, Florida and returned to Niles to stay in 2004. She traveled to Cancun, Mexico for grandson Greg Jr.’s wedding, attended numerous soccer games at Walsh University to watch her grandson Chris and most recently witnessed the graduation and October wedding of her granddaughter Kay. Betty is survived by daughter, Sandra (Gregory) Bahrey Sr. of Cortland; four grandchildren, Gregory (Stephanie) Bahrey Jr. of Cincinnati, Christopher (Alyssia) Bahrey of Columbus, Kay (Jonathon) Hoopes of Indianapolis, Indiana, Merrick S. Shimp and his mother Debra Shimp of Niles.

She was preceded in death by her husband Andros A. “Andy” Shimp whom she married on October 25, 1952 and who died on April 18, 2007; son, Stephen Allen Shimp who died on March 23, 2004; brother, William Boda and sister, Margaret Reno. A Memorial Service will be at Noon on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Yargo officiating.

Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Christopher Chuirazzi and the wonderful staff at Ohio Living, Home Health & Hospice.
