Obituary for Elizabeth (Betsy) R. Hurd Loving wife, mother, grandmother and special friend passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 with her family at her side after a courageous battle with cancer since March 2017. Age 62 years. Daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Curley) Raymond, Elizabeth was born May 22, 1956 in Garfield Heights, Ohio.
She was married to Anthony (Tony) T. Hurd on August 3, 1979 in Saginaw. He survives her. Betsy was a retired teacher of the Buena Vista Schools.
She was an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and school for 29 years, a Eucharistic Minister and minister to the homebound. Betsy was always on the move, walking, playing golf and dominating on the pickle ball court. Her greatest joy came from being a wife, mother and grandmother and spending time with her family.
Betsy is survived by her husband Tony, and was the devoted mother of Tony (Lindsay) Hurd, Sarah (Jeff) Edinger, Nicholas Hurd, and Dan (Jessica) Hurd; cherished grandmother of McKenna and Hudson Hurd, Quinn and Avery Hurd, and Theodore Edinger; her siblings, Margaret (Mike) Costantini, Phil (Tracey) Raymond, Tim (Marie) Raymond, Bernadette (Nan) Raymond and Mary Kay (Don) Willis; many wonderful nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins throughout the United States. Betsy was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph J. Raymond III. “Thank you to all the people who prayed for me and supported me throughout my illness.
Many friends made delicious meals for my family, called, texted and visited me. I really appreciated the support and love you all. I wish to thank Dr. Bartnik and his staff for their loving care, Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Lioudmila Kinachtchouk”.
Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St., Saginaw. Rev. Fr.
Richard Bokinskie will officiate. Honoring Betsy’s wishes cremation will follow with burial of cremains in St. Andrews Cemetery at a later date. Friends may visit at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd.
(between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service will take place 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
