Elizabeth “Betty” Moser died peacefully on May 23, 2019 in the arms of her children and within the aura of the thoughtful and loving caregivers at Ridgeview Care Center in Le Sueur, Minnesota as well as the ancillary care of Ridgeview Hospice services. Memorial service will be on Friday, May 31, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Le Sueur. Visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial to follow at Mound Cemetery, Le Sueur, MN with a lunch to follow the burial at the church. Rev. Terri Horn will officiate the services.

Betty was born in the “lakes country” of rural Otter Tail County, Minnesota near Richville on October 3, 1930 to Cyril Erwin Grover and Verlie Evangeline (Babcock) Grover. She grew up reading, fishing, swimming, and loving her family. She was one of the top graduates of both the 1948 Perham High School and Moorhead State University where she became a teacher.

She taught first in Otter Tail County and later in Le Sueur, Minnesota where she met Merle Moser at the Le Sueur Methodist Episcopal church, due to the subtle machinations of Jerry Distel and Eugene Sunderman, two of Merle’s friends. Jerry Distel told us the story of the redheaded teacher sitting in the choir with the “cute smile,” and urging Merle to ‘make a move. ’ Betty and Merle were married on December 28, 1956 in Betty’s home church in Richville, Otter Tail County, Minnesota.

They became partners and soul mates. She was a wonderful teacher whose career was cut short by an accident of fate. Her husband Merle was seriously injured in an automobile accident in 1957 and his subsequent recovery time saw “Betty” at home helping with his medical appointments and recovery.

So serious about helping with Merle’s recovery, “Betty” and Merle welcomed four children into the world between 1958 and 1961! These children were given much love, a head-start on their educations and quite a few chores. She continued to substitute teach in the Le Sueur school district after continuing her education at the University of Minnesota and Minnesota State University-Mankato.

Betty also worked at the Le Sueur Corner Drug Store for years, the Green Giant experimental kitchens with her friend and neighbor, Betty Mollenhauer; and the St. Peter Herald with her great friend Marilyn Witty. “Betty” was an active member of the community: she was a member and long-time fixture at the Le Sueur United Methodist Church, where she served on many committees, but especially enjoyed working with her friends Verle Jones, Marie Sunderman, Anne Dundas, as well as many other life-long friends where she was part of the Ruth Circle. She was a long-time 4-H leader and volunteer, as well as serving many years on the Le Sueur County Extension Board.

“Betty” enjoyed many things in life, but had a few favorite hobbies: reading, gardening, family genealogy, raising dogs, card club, serving on the historic Ottawa Methodist Church committee, and recognizing beauty and grace wherever she wandered. “Betty” is preceded in death by her parents, Cyril and Verlie (Babcock) Grover; husband, Merle; sons, Wayne Arthur Moser and Steven Cyril Moser; sister, Elaine Ione (Leo) Winkels; brother, Cyril Duane Grover; and very special siblings-in-law and neighbors, Willis and Elaine Ione (Moser) Schleeve. She is survived by her sister, Verna Mae “Pat” Martin of Minneapolis-St. Paul; brother, Charles Aubrey “Skip” Grover (Carna) of Wisconsin; children, Kathryn Marron (Tom) of Saint Paul and Scott Moser of Humboldt, Iowa; grandchildren, Amanda (Noah) Bluesky of Lake St. Croix Beach, Leif (Hannah) Moser of St. Paul, Samuel Marron (Abby) of Milwaukee, Colin Marron (Missy) of Colorado, Mackenzie Marron (Senia Lee) of St. Paul, and Nathaniel Moser (Alexandra Althoff) of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Bluesky, Ava Bluesky, Theodore Marron, and Cassandra Marron; and many much-loved and supportive nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she encouraged to visit the farm for visits so they could work at Green Giant, and/or ride the horse, snowmobiles, mini-bikes, and play in the haymow.
