Obituary of Elizabeth Vernold Elizabeth M. Vernold, 96, of Downsville passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Roscoe Community Nursing Home, following a long illness. Betty was born on October 23, 1922 in Walton, the daughter of the late Homer C. and Hazel M. (Conklin) Bull. She was a graduate of Downsville Central School, class of 1940.

On November 3, 1940 she married Otis Vernold in Margaretville. He died on August 18, 1994. Betty worked at the Village Market in Downsville as a clerk for many years before retiring.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Downsville, Willowemac, Downsville, chapter of the Eastern Star; American Legion Auxiliary of Downsville, and the Colchester Historical Society. Betty enjoyed knitting, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, baseball, watching NASCAR and visiting with her friends at the Downsville Diner. Betty is survived by her brother, Harold R. Neff of Suffolk, VA, aunt, Erma Hathaway of Bartow, VT, and special friend, Cindee Nevin of Downsville.

A graveside service will be held in the Paige Cemetery in the spring at a Date and time to be announced. Arrangements are under the direction of the Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
