Obituary for Elsie Rosie Lee Pierce Marlow: Elsie Rosie Lee Pierce Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel with Rev. Tracy Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services of Marlow.

Elsie Rosie Lee Lackey Pierce was born October 20, 1920 to James Lackey and Frances Edwards in Glover, Oklahoma. Francis passed away a few days after Elsie’s birth therefore she was raised by her father and her brothers and sisters. She married J.W. Pierce on October 16, 1936 in Duncan, Oklahoma.

To this union, four daughters were born; Eileen, Mary, Wanda and Trudy. Elsie lived in the Purdy Community on the Beverly Parr Farm and worked in the fields cutting broomcorn. In 1947, she moved to Springfield, Colorado where J.W. worked for Santa Fe Railroad.

Elsie worked in cafe’s as a dishwasher and also worked as a hotel maid. She was one of a kind, small, but strong. She taught her daughters to cook and clean house.

She was an example as a wife, no matter the condition of the houses that she lived in, she made it a clean and attractive home. The grandchildren loved grandma’s fried chicken and okra. Elsie always kept a large garden.

She loved to cook for her family and was especially known for her pies, cinnamon rolls, and enchilada’s. September 30, 1975, after J.W retired from the railroad, they moved back to Marlow and purchased a home on 817 W. Nabor. When Elsie set her mind to do something, she did it to the finish.

She cared for J.W. in their home until has passing at the age of 90. They had been married for 65 years. She was a hard worker.

She never really had time to be a child and grow-up like most, she quickly entered adulthood by the age of 15. Life was never easy for her in any way, but she made do with what life handed her. Elsie passed from this life to enter her heavenly home on July 26th at the age of 97.

She is preceded in death by her father, mother, 9 sisters and brothers, daughter Trudy, 1 grandson, and 1 great-grand son. She is survived by her daughters Eileen Murphy and husband Lee, Mary Lawson and husband Forest, and Wanda David and husband Everett. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grand children.
