Obituary for Emma “Lois” Smith Emma “Lois” Baird Smith, 91, of Rock Hill, passed away Monday, July 23, 2018 at Piedmont Medical Center. She was born February 28, 1927 in Clarendon County, SC, daughter of the late Howard J. and Emma Osbourne Baird. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by beloved husband of 50 years, Thomas H. Smith, Jr.; sister, Esther Baird Morris; and brothers, Julian Baird and Charlton Osbourne.
Lois was very active with Parks and Recreation of Rock Hill, the Special Olympics and attended Cornerstone United Methodist Church. She won many medals traveling all over the US with the Senior Olympics. She was an avid bingo player and painter.
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, opening her door for all her children’s friends. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Rebecca Smith Hasenjaeger and husband, Richard of Rock Hill; son, Thomas “Hugh” Smith of Rock Hill; three grandchildren, Nathan Hasenjaeger and wife, Ligita, Katie H. Barbagelata and husband, Daniel, and Mallory Smith; one great-granddaughter, Lilith Ann Hasenjaeger; sisters, Melva Christmas and Eleanor Odom, both of Florence, SC; and brother, Roy Osbourne and wife, Mildred of GA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Rebecca Hasenjaeger.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 27, 2018 at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens with Pastor Irvin Plowden officiating. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to the Area Eleven Special Olympics of Rock Hill. Online condolences may be directed to: www.
