Ernest “Ernie” Lawrence Harris III, 80, of Braintree, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2018 after battling cancer the same way he lived his life, fearlessly. Ernie was born on January 20, 1938 in Jamaica Plain, to Ernest Lawrence Harris II and Margret Francis (Pupek) Harris both of Boston. At a young age, Ernie’s artistic talent was recognized by Mayor Hynes and he nurtured his abilities his entire life, sketching, carving and painting stunning gifts for those he loved.

Professionally, his aptitude translated into a lifetime of carpentry where he was supervisor on many recognizable buildings in downtown Boston and surrounding suburbs. Ernie was a proud member of the Local 40 Carpenters Union, Boston until his retirement, which he spent sharing his vast knowledge with the many customers of Home Depot and Lowes. Ernie is survived by his wife Marilyn of Bridgewater; his five sons Ernest Harris IV and his fiancée Carmen of Ft Lauderdale, FL; Drew Harris and his fiancée Donna of Dighton; Dana Harris of Ft.

Lauderdale, FL; Darrin and Paula Harris of Windsor; Dale and Jennifer Harris of Hingham; his brother Robert Harris of Ft. Meyers, FL; sister Helen Barrett of North Attleboro; his 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ernie is preceded in death by his brother Jimmy Harris.

Those who love him will remember Ernie as a strong, loyal, loving man, who enjoyed reading, woodworking, and “the oldies”. Although not a big fan of sports, Ernie enjoyed watching his grandchildren play the sports they love. He only found more joy when listening to them sing or play an instrument.

We mourn his passing, but celebrate the time we had with him. He will never be forgotten. A memorial service will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to cancer research or your local library.
