Ernest Shelton Evans, III, 72, of Smiths Station, AL passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Skip Speed officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service. Ernie was born January 19, 1946 in Prattville, AL, son of the late Ernest Shelton Evans, II and Marie Smith Evans. He retired from the Phenix City Board of Education, where he was a Supervisor of Auxiliary Services.

Ernie was an incredibly loving father and grandfather who always put his family first. He was loyal to friends, kind to strangers, and willing to help anyone in need. He was a hard worker who enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, and farming.

Ernie was a true gentleman and a good man. He made an impact on many lives and will be greatly missed. Ernie is survived by two daughters, Beth Wells of Columbus, GA and Jessica Morgan and husband Chad of Valley, AL; one son, Ernest Shelton Evans IV of Smiths Station, AL; three sisters, Jo Ann Ellis, Stella Daugherty and Cindy Woodall; grandchildren, Ernest Shelton Evans V, Hannah Gilmore, Cain Smith, Bailey Smith and Brody Morgan; great-grandchildren, Easton Smith and Reed Dowdy; many extended family and friends.
