94, of Providence passed away peacefully in his bed on Friday May 18. He was born in Providence on February 26, 1924 to Philip D. and Jennie (Antoscia) Testa. He was a devoted husband for sixty years to the late Louise (Giovannucci) Testa who was also born in Providence.

Ernest was a WWII Veteran in the US Army from May 1941 to May 1946. After returning from his military service, he received a B.S. Degree from the University of RI and a Master’s Degree from Northeastern University both in Electrical Engineering. He retired from the Naval Underwater Systems Center in Newport, RI in 1981.

He later became a professor of Electrical Engineering and Mathematics at the Roger Williams Jr. College and RI College. Ernest was an avid reader of many subjects, had a love for hiking, playing tennis and golf, and enjoyed cross country skiing. He also took much pride in serving as an advisory board member to the Cranston Senior Center.

He leaves behind his lovely companion Patricia Macko of West Warwick. They had many mutual interests, including serving the Cranston Senior Center, and had an active life until his illness. She was devoted and took excellent care of him.

He leaves behind his brother Domenic Testa and his wife Peggy of Connecticut, his sister-in-law Marie Dalma and her late husband Byron of Providence, and his brother-in-law the late Edmund Giovannucci of Providence, and many nieces and nephews. Though Ernest and his wife Louise did not have children of their own, they cared for and helped raise many of their nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Wednesday at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Laurel Hill Avenue, Providence at 11 a.m. VISITING HOURS: Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Burial, with Military Honors, will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
