Obituary for Ernestine Lyman (Mosman) Ernestine Clara Mosman Lyman, 86, of Kennebunk, died peacefully Sunday evening, February 25, 2018 at Bradford Court. She was born in Boston on February 19, 1932, the daughter of A. Frank and Gladys Dorothy (Staples) Mosman. Ernestine was the widow of George Lyman, who predeceased her in January 2017.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Massachusetts College Art in 1954, and then her Master of Fine Arts from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1961. Ernestine was an Educator and American Artist. She had a long and varied career, including art department instructor at Academy Junior College, Franklin, MA from 1954 to 1957; elementary art supervisor, Dalton (MA) Public Schools from 1958 to 1959, elementary art supervisor, Andover (MA) Public Schools from 1959 to 1962; associate professor, Massachusetts College Art, 1962-1965; art instructor, Northern Reading (MA) Junior High School, 1965-1966; art teacher, Newton (MA) High School, 1966-1969; art teacher, Horace Mann Elementary School, Newton, MA 1971-1973; art director, Lyman Graphics, Kennebunkport 1976; School for Cultural Journalism, Cape Porpoise, ME from 1986 to 1988.

She was a talented sculptor, exhibiting in group shows at Carnegie-Mellon University; Barn Gallery, Ogunquit, ME; DeCordova Museum, Lincoln, MA; Western Pennsylvania Sculptor’s Association. Ernestine also exhibited in one-woman shows including John Esther Gallery, 1961; Massachusetts College Art, 1963; River Tree Gallery, 1997. Ernestine and George shared many interests during their active and exciting life together.

The arts, music, travel, their pets including a beloved dog named Oliver, fast cars, good food and friends. She truly loved George, their pets, their friends, and life in Maine. She left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to have met her.

She was a long time member/donor of Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, Kennebunkport Emergency Medical Service; Trustee and President River Tree Arts; board of directors, Kennebunkport Residents Association; and lifetime member of the Kennebunkport Historical Society. She has no known survivors. A Memorial Service will be held later in the Spring.
