Obituary for Esther Bosma Esther Bosma, age 89, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Avera McKennan Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral Services will be Monday, July 9, 2018 at 1:30 P.M. at the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley. Rev.
Jack Van Dyken officiating. Burial to follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Sunday, July 8, from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. with the family present from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. all at the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley.
Esther Bernice Bosma was born on May 1, 1929 in Lodgepole, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Bert and Anna (Stuit) Bylstra. Esther’s father died and Anna married George Fisher.
When Esther was four years old they moved to Randolph, Wisconsin where she lived her youth and attended school. She attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and received a teaching certificate. Esther taught at Orange City Christian Grade School, Sanborn Christian Grade School and was an aide at Sibley Christian Grade School.
She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Bosma of Ocheyedan, Iowa on December 14, 1951 in Randolph, Wisconsin. They lived in Sibley, Iowa where Bill and Esther owned and operated the laundromat for 16 years and worked side by side building Bosma Poultry. They enjoyed traveling and visiting many places including China, Japan, Philippines, Europe and spending time in Arizona during the winter.
Bill passed away on October 12, 2004. Esther continued to travel on bus trips, visiting her brother in Florida and traveling with her children. She was proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their activities.
She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends, bowling and being involved with a birthday club. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley where she was active as a Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Leader, Calvinettes and Coffee Break. Esther had a great disposition in life.
She was a kind, caring and humble person who was loved by her family and many friends. She passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Avera McKennan Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Those left to cherish her memories are her 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Loren and Lori Bosma of Sibley, IA, and Daryl and Norma Bosma of Decorah, IA; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Lesa and Dave Stofferan of Sibley, IA, and Lana and Mike Todd of Columbus Junction, IA; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Edna Fisher of Indialantic, FL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Bosma; parents, Bert Bylstra and Anna and George Fisher; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ray Bras.
