Eugene John Gogel, 79 of Dale, went to be with our Savior on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at his home and is now with his wife, Irma, his son, Philip and his parents. He valiantly waited for his wife to pass first, a mere 27 days before he did, so she wouldn’t have to live without him. He was originally diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2004, and was then diagnosed with both prostate and bladder cancers in July 2018.

John was born in Dale on December 5, 1939 to Emil and Anna (Tretter) Gogel. He graduated from Dale High School in 1957 and was honorably discharged from the Army as a Specialist IV. He was united in marriage to the former Irma Mehling on September 29, 1962 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

John was a very faithful servant to our Lord his entire life. He served as a Eucharistic minister for many years at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a floor covering installer for many local companies and was also a terrific handy-man.

He enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and pinochle. He is survived by his son Steven (Mary) of Birchwood, Wisconsin, daughters Sandra Rasche and Glenda (Brad) Edge of Evansville, Brenda (Bruce) Ramsey of Kentucky and Jennifer (Todd) McGehee of Boonville; nine grandchildren, Benjamin Edge, Emily (Ty) Riffert, Korynne, Kamille and Klaire Rasche all of Evansville, Lauren Edge of Portland, Oregon, Bryce Ramsey of Kentucky, and Ryan and Nathan McGehee of Boonville; two great-grandchildren Trenton Riffert and his soon-to-be sister of Evansville; five sisters, Anastasia Kern, Lucille Lubbehusen and Ruth (Bill) Schwinghamer, all of Dale, RoseMary Sitzman of St. Meinrad, Mildred (Dave) Rummel of Huntingburg; and one brother, Herb Gogel of Dale, and a very special nephew and his wife Roger and Maureen Kern. He was preceded in death by his wife Irma less than 4 weeks ago, his son Philip in 1992, his parents, his brother Joseph Gogel and his goddaughter Janet (Lubbehusen) Hirsch.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CDT Wednesday January 16th at St. Francis Of Assisi Parish, St. Joseph Church in Dale. Visitation will be held in St. Joseph Church from 4:00 to 8:00 PM CDT Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. Burial with military graveside rites will be held in the church cemetery following mass.

Special thanks goes out to the wonderful nurses at Lange-Fuhs Cancer center; Kindred Hospice workers Penny, Melody, Karen, Lori and Cathy; Home Instead employees Dustin, Sylvia, Heather and Andrea, and the countless friends and family members who took him to his appointments and visited during his last weeks without Irma. He was so very grateful to you all. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Lange-Fuhs Cancer center or the Ronald McDonald house.
