Obituary for Eugene Samuel Bailey, Jr Eugene Samuel Bailey Jr was called to heaven on September 5, 2018 and joined beloved wife Margaret Elizabeth Pennington Bailey who preceded him. He moved to Marietta, Georgia in 2005 where he died at the age of 92. Gene is survived by three children, five grandchildren and a great-grandson; Eugene Stuart Bailey of Havre de Grace, Maryland; Daniel Logan and Julie Bancel Bailey and grandchildren Jennifer Elizabeth and Logan Joseph of Snohomish, Washington; Eleanor Bailey and John Daniel Knox III and granddaughter Margaret Rose Knox Jones and spouse Andrew Michael Jones, great-grandson Knox Martin Jones, grandsons John Daniel and Graham Samuel of Marietta, Georgia.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. Gene was born October 21, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland, the second child to Eugene Samuel and Mary Katherine Graff Bailey, brother to Belinda Elizabeth Bailey Marshall (deceased). Gene graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic High School in 1944.

He served about 2 ½ years in the US Navy during WWII, attending radio, sonar and radar schools before seeing duty with the submarine fleet in the Pacific theatre. He was honorably discharged as an ETM 2/c in 1946. After earning a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1950, he worked 6 years for the Virginia Electric & Power Company in Fredericksburg & Richmond, VA.

In 1956, he went with the Baltimore Gas & Electric Company in Maryland. Attending night school, he earned a BS degree in Business from John Hopkins University in 1962 and a MS degree in Financial Management from George Washington University in 1969. He was a registered Professional Engineer in Maryland.

Active in church work, he served as a Deacon, Elder, Clerk of Session and was a signer of the Charter of Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church – Woodbrook in Maryland. Gene was married on June 24, 1950 at Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church – Park Ave in Baltimore, Maryland. They first settled in Richmond, Virginia, where they joined the Presbyterian Church.

In 1951 they resided in Fredericksburg, Virginia and in 1953 moved back to Richmond. A job change in 1956 returned the family to the Baltimore area. While there, they lived in the Towson suburbs and in 1972 they purchased a lakeshore cottage in Ontario, Canada for family summer activities.

On retirement in 1985, they moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and in 2005 to Marietta, Georgia. As lifelong Christians and members of Presbyterian Churches in all of the places they lived, they faithfully volunteered their time and talents and supported various Presbyterian missions. Gene was an extremely devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved fishing, boating, golfing, clocks, reading and playing bridge.

He studied American history and enjoyed traveling worldwide with Margaret during their retirement. A family graveside prayer service and interment of Eugene and Margaret will be held at Dillsburg Cemetery in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania on November 17, 2018.
