Obituary for Robert “Bob” Norton Mr. Robert “Bob” Norton of Marietta passed away on Monday, October 22nd at Kennestone Hospital. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins on Church Street in Marietta on Friday, November 2nd at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Andy Cunningham of Covington and Rev.

Ron Wikander of Mineral Bluff officiating. Mr. Norton was predeceased by his parents, Fred W. Norton and Hazel S. Norton; sister, Freida N. Casey; brothers, James W. Norton and Douglas F. Norton. Leaving to cherish his memory, wife, Barbara; sons, Allan and wife, Patsy, Timothy and wife Donna; brother, Howard and wife Tura; special cousin, Rebecca Cheek and husband Larry; sister in law, Linda Norton; grandchildren, Robin and wife, Amy, Payton, Nichole, Jed and wife, Ashley.

He is also survived by several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Norton will be missed by family as well as his Fair Oaks Methodist Church family where he was a member for sixty years. After purchasing a sleigh and finding a stuffed Laplander reindeer, Mr. Norton became known as the “Polk Street Santa” to many children that stopped by for a visit and pictures, the fun lasted twenty years.

Later he greatly enjoyed the children, now adults that would stop and remember the past fun. It just so happens that while in the hospital, his nurse shared pictures of her visit when she was a child of six and came by with her older sister and mom. What a special night.

Mr. Norton also gave his time to Air National Guard unit for 37 years which then moved to Goldsboro North Carolina as a reserve unit. He retired from Lockheed-Martin Aircraft after 34 years as Training officer and later Assistant Chief. He also gave his time to several small communities that only had volunteer Fire Departments as their Training Officer.
