Obituary for Douglas Wayne Attaway Douglas Wayne Attaway, 59, of Marietta passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday October 6, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta, Father Adrian Pleus officiating. The Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home on Friday, October 5, 2018.
A Prayer Service follows the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Douglas Wayne Attaway was born to Clara and George Walden Attaway on November 7, 1958 in Box Springs, Georgia. 0ne of four children, he was preceded by his sisters Beverly and Nancy and followed by Silvia. He was called Wayne from the day he was born.
Wayne played football for Pacelli Vikings Catholic High School in Columbus, Georgia. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1981. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Wojtysiak, on September 18, 1982.
The couple just celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary. The couple have two children: their daughter, Morgan Attaway, born June 5, 1989 and their son Danel Attaway born on April 24, 1994. Wayne’s hobbies included cowboy shooting, carpentry, motorcycle riding, horseback riding, hiking and both water and snow skiing.
Sitting down with a good book and a cold beer was one of his favorite things to do. He was baptized and confirmed in 1995 in the Catholic faith at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marietta, Georgia. Wayne, started his career with Millican in La Grange, GA.
The couple moved to Atlanta when Wayne secured a position with Frito Lay and moved to Marietta when he began his building career with P.J. Rowe Construction in 1988. On March 25th, 1992, Wayne, Scott Maness, and Loris Woolard formed the partnership of Woolard Attman Constuction Inc. – a Commercial General Contractor – of which he worked until his passing on September 29th, 2018. Their business began on Wylie Road in Marietta.
As the business outgrew its first office, it was moved to White Circle in Marietta on March 29th, 2000. Loris was named the president, Wayne the Vice President and Scott the Vice President and Secretary. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Morgan; son, Daniel; sisters, Beverly Attaway, Nancy Fields, and Sylvia Attaway.
