Obituary for Ioanna Aphantiti Michaels Ioanna Aphantiti Michaels, resident of Atlanta, GA, passed away on November 11, 2018 at the age of 72. Ioanna was born in Mia Milia, Cyprus, where she fled the war with nothing but the clothes on her back. She adapted to a new culture and country while raising three children and was an educator, both in Greek and American schools.
She is remembered most for her spirituality, kindness and selfless service to her family, friends and communities. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Pavlos Michaels, daughter Maria Michaels, daughter Tina Johansen and husband Andy, son Michael Michaels and wife Danielle; and three grandchildren Tyler Michaels, Andrew and Isabella Johansen. The family will receive friends for a viewing at the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home (180 Church St. NE, Marietta, GA 30060) on Friday, November 16, from 5:00-7:00 pm and will have a Trisagion prayer service from 7:00-8:00 pm.
The funeral service will be on Saturday, November 17 at 11:00 am at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church (3431 Trickum Rd, Marietta, GA 30066), followed by a procession and burial at Green Lawn Cemetery (950 Mansell Rd. , Roswell, GA 30076). All are welcome to return to the Parish Life Center at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church for a Makaria (luncheon to celebrate her life).
Heartbroken that our sweet, beautiful mother Ioanna Michaels passed away unexpectedly this morning. May her memory be eternal. Heaven got a new angel today.
