Eugene S. “Gene” Bartok, 94, resident of Eldorado passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019 at his residence. Gene was born December 17, 1924 in Bruceville, Indiana to the late Joseph S. and Elizabeth (Szemere) Bartok. On August 24, 1945 Gene married the former Betty Lou Mitchell who preceded him in death on January 11, 1990.

He later married the former Clara Jewell Meadows who preceded him in death March 12, 2018. Early in life Gene worked in the oil fields and later he became owner of the Saline County Country Club. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldorado.

Gene is survived by two children: William (Tanya) Bartok of Eldorado and Diane E. (Robert) Mason of Eldorado, five grandchildren: Kelly Mason, Rob Mason, B.J. Bartok, Jake Bartok, Bryant Bartok and 9 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wives he was preceded in death by a son: Steven Bartok and 9 siblings: Joseph, Ernest, William, Arvol, Edwin, Julia Nold, Anna Bartok, Elizabeth Talley and Isabel Talley. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with Fr.

Steven Beatty officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Eldorado. Visitation will be 10:00 am to service time on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home. Condolences and expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family via the website www.
