Obituary for Eugene W. Warnecke Eugene ‘Gene’ Warnecke, 88, of Delphos, passed away Monday morning, July 2, 2018 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center. Gene was born May 7, 1930 in Ft. Jennings to Leo and Dorothy (Helmkamp) Warnecke, who both preceded him in death.
On June 16, 1951, he married Marciel E. ‘Marcy’ (Lammers) Warnecke, who preceded him in death on March 28, 2013. He is survived by four sons, Mike (Denise) Warnecke of Springfield, Dan (Jan) Warnecke of Ft. Myers, Florida, Joe (Sherry) Warnecke and Jim (Suzie) Warnecke, both of Delphos; three daughters, Cinda Kinstle of Lima, Linda (Jeff Cary) Flanagan of Elida, and Becky (Drew) Spieles of Delphos; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jane Landwehr of Ft.
Jennings; and a sister-in-law, Sue Warnecke of Delphos. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Baby Jo, and Brandon Warnecke; 2 sons-in-law, Lee Kinstle and Mike Woods; a brother, Leonard Warnecke; and a brother-in-law, Charlie Landwehr. Gene was part of the opening of the Lima Mall in 1965.
After working as regional/general manager with the company for over 30 years, he retired in 1995. He was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, serving as greeter. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie #471, and the Knights of Columbus Council 1362.
He was very involved in the community, having served as councilman and safety service director. Gene had a passion to be involved in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. Gene Warnecke Legacy: “There is no better family to have raised than the Warnecke family, with all their attributes and gifts they have brought to the family.
Even a ‘strike-out’ was a thing of beauty to me. Everything I have done in life has been for my family. Everything that has happened within our family has been a thing of beauty and pride for me”.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 5 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Charles Obinwa officiating. He will be laid to rest alongside the love of his life of 62 years, Marcy, in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. on Wednesday; and 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos. A Knights of Columbus service will be held Wednesday at 6:45 p.m., followed by a Parish Wake Service. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
