Obituary for Evelyn Mae Benrud Evelyn Mae Kvalvog wa s born on July 20, 1931 to Oscar and Ruth (Strand) Kvalvog at their home in Cherry Grove Township. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Minneola Lutheran Church. Evelyn grew up on the family dairy farm and graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1949.

After high school she worked for the Rural Electric Association office in Zumbrota. Soon after, she met Carl Benrud and they married on June 29, 1951. Together Carl and Evelyn farmed, milking cows and raising their three daughters near Bellechester.

For a time Evelyn worked in the office of the Goodhue Public Schools and later in life she worked as a personal care giver. She was an active member of the United Redeemer Lutheran Church taking part in many church groups and activities and was a Sunday school teacher. Over the years she was a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Home Extension women’s group, Farm Bureau social group, Red Hat Ladies, and many other women’s groups.

Some of her favorite things to do were listening to Carl sing, watching her grandchildren and great granddaughter grow, traveling, reading, making crafts, shopping, playing cards, and going to rummage sales. She loved all things Scandinavian and anything blue. One of her passions was spending time with friends and family.

She loved entertaining and setting a pretty table. She was affectionately named the professional food pusher; no one could leave without having something to eat. At Christmas you were assured a variety of Scandinavian treats to enjoy.

Evelyn entered her baked goods at the Goodhue County Fair winning several ribbons. She was also the Culinary Superintendent for many years. She loved the fair and visiting with all the people.

When Carl passed away in 2004, she moved to Zumbrota. There she enjoyed her flowers, entertaining, baking and spending time with her friends and family. During her time of illness, she and her family were so grateful to all those who remembered her in prayer, calling, sending her cards/flowers, visiting and sharing food.

She and her family were very grateful to the Hospice staff for their excellent and compassionate care. Evelyn will be greatly missed by her daughters, Carolyn (Wayne) Swanson, Susan (Steve) Wendt, and Julie (Lance) Luhman; grandchildren, Matt (Stacey) Swanson, Marcus Wendt, Nicole (Jeff) Carlson; step-granddaughter, Valerie Luhman; great granddaughter, Elli Swanson; and brother, Phil (Lola) Kvalvog.
