Obituary for Matthew Thomas Parker Matthew Thomas Parker, 42, of Red Wing, died Friday, November 23, 2018, as a result of an automobile accident. He was born May 22, 1976, in Red Wing to John and Nani (Cohen) Parker. Growing up, Matthew was active in many sports, playing hockey, football and baseball while in high school.

He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1994 and went on to attend St. Mary’s University in Winona where he studied environmental biology. He also played hockey, as a goalie, while at St. Mary’s. During his summers off from college, he worked at Parker Electric and bar-tended at the Barrel House.

After graduation, he bought the Barrel House, which he owned and operated for 12 years. He then pursued a career in the family business, Parker Electric. Matt made many friends throughout his life, from his neighborhood kids growing up, to his high school and college buddies and Barrel House patrons, his friendly smile and easy-going attitude are what inclined people to talk to him.

One of his best buds, was his father, whom he spent many hunting and fishing trips with. Being outdoors, spending time on the river and taking his Springer Spaniel, Bell, out for hikes are what Matt enjoyed most. Matthew is survived by his mother, Nani of Red Wing; grandfather, Don Marco of Red Wing; aunts and uncles, Mark Cohen of Red Wing, Jennifer Murray of Honolulu, Jeffrey (Gigi) Robert of Maui, Kathy Dwyer of Red Wing, Tom (Deb) Parker of Golden Valley and George (Kay) Parker of Red Wing, many cousins and his beloved companion, Bell.

He was preceded in death by his father, John; maternal grandmothers, Clover and Alice Cohen; paternal grandparents, Tom and Lu Parker and 2 uncles, Bill and Sam Parker. Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 29, at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery.
