Obituary of Fannie Nevins Fannie Maureen (Shematek) Nevins, 96, of Latrobe, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Barnes Place, Latrobe. She was born January 24, 1922 in Monongahela, PA, a daughter of the late George and Mary Shematek. Fannie was a member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church.

She was a founding partner in Cookies & More and a former member of the Latrobe United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Deborah-Rachel Circle and the Quilters. She was a lifetime member of the Arbutus Lodge #33, Ladies Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of the Railroad Trainmen. She was a devoted and much beloved homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Fannie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Nevins; three brothers, George, Joseph and Matthew Shematek; and her sister, Mary Shematek. She is survived by four children: Ronald Nevins and his wife Victoria of Williamsburg, VA; Donna Nevins Witherspoon and her husband Robert of Latrobe, PA; Patricia Nevins Jewell and her husband Thomas of West End, NC; Charles Nevins II and his wife Edith of Greensburg, PA; eight grandchildren: Kristi (Joseph) McGaugh, Daniel (Jennifer) Nevins, Jennifer (Daniel) Lachenman, Daniel (Susan) Witherspoon, Paul (Amanda) Yandora, Kimberly (Mark) Matthews, Jessica Nevins and Emily (Michael) Rooney and nine great-grandchildren: Aidan, Rose, Samuel, Elias, Gabriel, Matthew, Michael, Andrew and William; one sister Ann Krol of Whiting, NJ and a number of nieces and nephews. Fannie’s family wishes to thank the staff at Barnes Place in Latrobe for their kindness and compassionate care for the past three years and Excela Health Hospice.

Friends will be received Tuesday, Sept. 18th from 4 until 7 PM in the Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home, Inc., 1500 Ligonier Street, Latrobe. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday in the Latrobe Presbyterian Church, 428 Main Street, Latrobe.

Everyone please go directly to the church. Private interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Indiana, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.
