Obituary for Faye Butler Claxton Faye Butler Claxton Augusta, GA – Faye Butler Claxton entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 16, 2018. She was the loving wife of James “Jimmy” W. Claxton for almost 50 years. Faye was born February 22, 1948, was a native of Lincolnton, GA and made Augusta her home for over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harriett Goldman Butler, Luther O’Neil Butler and infant son, Blake Butler Claxton. In addition to her husband, Faye is survived by their son, Chad Butler Claxton, stepmother, Charlotte Tuten Butler, sister-in-law, Sissy B. Claxton, and other loving family members. Faye had a strong Christian faith, and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, and Warren Baptist Church.

She supported various other churches in Georgia and South Carolina. She graduated from Lincoln County High School (Lincolnton) and Augusta University. Faye was an outstanding educator and retired from the Richmond County School System after more than 30 years.

She taught at Butler High School, Augusta Technical College and Davidson Fine Arts School. Faye received the Teacher of the Year award at Davidson. Their founding principal, Beverly Barnhardt stated “Faye was the best business teacher Davidson ever had”.

She was adored by her fellow teachers and students. Faye also served as past president of the Mayo Home Owners Association, where she and Jimmy made lifelong friendships. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, May 20, 2018, from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd.

, Augusta, GA 30907. A graveside service will be held Monday, May 21, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Westover Memorial Park, 2601 Wheeler Road, Augusta, Ga 30904 with Pastor Paul Reviere officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorable contributions may be made to the Harriet Goldman Butler Scholarship Fund, established at Goshen Baptist Church, P.O. Box 716, Lincolnton, GA 30817 or the American Heart Association.
