Felicia was born on August 19, 1964 in Fort Worth, Texas, to Woodman Sr. and Norma Dawson. After a courageous battle with cancer, our beloved Felicia Ann (Dawson) Thompson transitioned peacefully on May 18, 2019, at age 54. Felicia grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from Everman High School where she was an active student athlete.
She won many extemporaneous speaking competitions and participated in various sports, including varsity basketball for three years and cheerleading for four years. Felicia always had a heart for service to all mankind and delighted in being a part of many volunteer opportunities and community activities. She continued her education and graduated from East Texas State University (ETSU) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business Administration.
In Fall 1983, with “Precious Memories” as her given line name, Felicia was initiated into the Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the first Greek-lettered sorority established by African-American college-educated women. She was an active member with 35 years of loyal service and proudly achieved the noble AKA Silver Star. This recognition of 25 years of membership demonstrated her remarkable commitment and character.
Throughout her life, she remained active and served in the Chi Zeta Omega Graduate Chapter (Plano, Texas) and the Beta Mu Omega Graduate Chapter (Fort Worth, Texas) of which she was a member at the time of her transition. While attending ETSU, Felicia met Reginal Thompson who would later become her college sweetheart. Felicia married her longtime friend and love on June 11, 1988, and they settled in Garland, Texas.
Their loving union lasted 22 years until Reginal’s transition. The two created three amazing children and a lifetime of wonderful memories. One of Felicia’s most important lifetime roles was being a proud, dedicated mother.
With a steadfast and unwavering love, supporting her children was her main focus. Felicia treasured and embraced every moment with them, and she delighted in teaching them life lessons…“do not wait until it’s too late to get help” and “less is more”. A significant part of Felicia’s life was her spiritual belief and faith in God.
She served in various ministries at various churches, including the Usher Board in which she served as president at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Children’s Ministry, Women’s Choir, and Vacation Bible School. Most recently, she served as Usher President at Keystone Fellowship Church in Fort Worth, Texas.
In addition to serving at “The Key” as an usher, she was a member of the S.W.A.T. (Singles With A Testimony) ministry. Felicia always encouraged her family to pray and be spiritual-minded.
Felicia worked in healthcare at various employers for many years, including Baylor Healthcare System & HCA for 12 years throughout the DFW metroplex. Until her health declined, with a steadfast hope of returning, she worked in management at Medical City Alliance as Director of Patient Access. Affectionately regarded as “Lisa Ann” and “FeFe” by family and friends, and “Dawson” by her dear sorority sisters, Felicia was resilient and chose to be joyful about living her life even through difficult times.
She was strong, graceful, and an inspiration to many. With her vivacious personality and contagious laughter, she impacted the lives of everyone she encountered. She made friends everywhere which was a testimony to her loving and kind spirit.
Felicia Ann will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodman, Sr. and Norma Dawson, and her husband, Reginal Thompson. Those left to cherish precious memories and continue her legacy include her children: Branson Alan, Brinyae Kathryn, and Briquette Felise Thompson – all of Haslet, Texas; brother, Woodman Dawson, Jr. and his wife, Tina, of Fort Worth, Texas; nephew, Woodman Dawson III of Fort Worth, Texas; uncle, Stacy Mckee and his wife, Marguerite, of San Jose, California; aunts, Dulcine Woods and Gracie Jones – both of Desoto, Texas; and an abundance of cousins, sorority sisters, and friends.
