James’ Obituary James D Lacy died on May 12, 2019 from liver disease. He was a caring, generous man, full of life and laughter. He sought out adventures, was passionate about music, and enjoyed fishing every chance he could get.
He is survived by his wife, Dianna “Diri” Lacy, his daughter Jessica Rose Lacy, his son James Anthony Lacy, his “like a daughter” Kassondra Lacy, his parents Jerry and Scharolett Lacy as well as his grandmother Maxine Lacy and his siblings Jon, Jerry, and Susan. He’s joining his brother Jason Lacy in the Kingdom of Heaven. James married Diri in 1987 and over doubled his family with the addition of all The Madrids.
In March of 1988, he brought home his pride and joy, Jessica Lacy. He would hold her for hours on end and show her off to everyone. After begging for a second child for years, Diri finally graduated from TWU and they brought home another precious gem, James Anthony Lacy in April of 1992.
That year they also purchased their home of twenty-seven years. James brought so much love and laughter to everyone in this little house. The Lacys hosted extravagant kids’ birthday parties, Halloween parties, Karaoke sing along nights, family dinners, work appreciation dinners and so much more.
When the Lacys were not at home, they were camping on a lake somewhere, enjoying the Zen balance that the water and fishing brought to their busy life. James was always a giving man. He had a heart for the homeless and made sure they had coats and blankets in the winter and food anytime he could get it to them.
Many Thanksgivings he would ask to bring them home. In their early-married years, James would insist they do Meals on Wheels in the winter when drivers ran short due to weather. He also did yearly maintenance repairs and DJ BBQs for Promise House during his years with Post Properties.
His charitable acts went on to help clean cages and walk dogs at the Richardson Animal shelter and Operation Kindness in Carrollton, as well as working alongside Joes Pizza to serve families in need for Thanksgiving dinners. His kindness and service spilled over to McLaughlin Strickland where wife Diri works. He grilled, DJ-ed dances, put up a green screen curtain for TNN, painted the Wall of fame, and one day when he was in the area, he stopped and helped with dismissal.
Just when he thought, they would be empty nesters, he took in Kassondra and her family for about a year, and later, Cadence and Watford’s Children for a few months when the need arose. He loved to love on kids and play with them. James was a successful auto mechanic until the carpal tunnel in his hands was too painful and the doctor told him he would need to find a different profession.
Since he was mechanically inclined, he transferred his knowledge to the maintenance field, worked for university apartments at UTD, and then became Lead Maintenance supervisor for Post Properties. Later he pursued his own business in home restoration and repairs and was able to spend more time traveling adventures with his wife and family. They traveled to Alaska twice, Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, several cities in Utah, California, Florida, Texas, and Mexico.
However, the ultimate trip was the trip to Italy because it was the first trip outside of North America. There have been so many great memories and “when a loved one becomes a memory, the Memories become Treasures”. In lieu of flowers, please help one of these organizations James loved.
