Obituary of Florence Catherine Van Ochten Florence Catherine Van Ochten, 91, of Hampton Twp. , our happy, loving, caring, and thoughtful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend was born into eternal life on February 1, 2019 at her home. Florence was born on December 14, 1927 in Bay City, the daughter of the late, Adrian and Viola (Voss) Vos.
Florence graduated from St. John’s High School and went on to marry the love of her life, Delmer Van Ochten on April 24, 1946. Together they shared 62 years, four children, and countless memories. Sadly, Delmer predeceased Florence in 2010.
Florence was a wonderful mother and housewife and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish. She enjoyed gardening, trips to the casino, watching her beloved Detroit Tigers, going shopping, and playing bingo with her friends at the AMVETS hall every Friday. But most of all, Florence will be remembered for the love she had for her family – she was a “Gold Star” mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she will be missed dearly but lovingly remembered for generations to come.
Florence leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Gail (David) Przepiora, Paul (Diana) Van Ochten, and David (Jackie) Van Ochten; grandchildren, Kristie (Patrick) Calzone, Stephanie (Jeff) Meyer, Stacy (Kim) Stock, and Scott (Elizabeth) Meyer; great-grandchildren, Eliana Stock, Emberlyn Stock, Colin Meyer, Lucas Meyer, Roman Meyer, Samantha Calzone, Emma Meyer, and Avery Meyer; sisters-in-law, Darlene Edler, Joanne Van Ochten, Ilene Van Ochten and Kathleen Van Ochten, along with several nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Florence was welcomed home to heaven by her son, Terry Van Ochten; siblings, Dorothy Dubay, Loretta Glaza, Francis Vos, and Bob Vos; brothers-in-law, Walter Edler, Chester Van Ochten, Robert Van Ochten, and Joe Van Ochten, and her sister-in-law, Leona Clark.
