Frances Winter Barnes, 80 years old, of Mt. Pleasant, NC, passed away peacefully in her home on October 16, 2018. Fran was born October 15, 1938 in Appleton, WI to Walter Winter and Bernice Bruch Winter and enjoyed her childhood days there.

After high school, she attended St. Luke’s Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, Illinios for nursing school. In March 1960, she was introduced to her future husband, John Barnes, by her roommate, Kay and her fiancé, Robert Barnes (John’s brother). After completing her nursing degree in the spring of 1960, Fran and John married on October 29, 1960, 100 days from their first date!

The couple moved between Appleton, WI and Colorado in the early years, and settled in Greenfield, WI, a suburb of Milwaukee, for 23 years. Fran worked at West Allis Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee in the 1970’s as a medical floor nurse. She also worked part-time as an Administrative nurse in a doctor’s office in early 1980’s.

Her real desire was to be a full-time homemaker. She loved preserving crops from the garden and making such things as sweet pickles and tomato sauce. She also made her famous homemade Cinnamon and Pecan rolls during the Holiday season.

She enjoyed watching murder mystery shows and mastering crossword puzzles. Fran was actively involved as the President and coordinator of her kid’s swim club and an enthusiastic fan of their endeavors. Upon retirement, the couple enjoyed 12 years of full time RV travels throughout the US as members of the RV Escapee Group.

Fran used her nursing skills at whatever RV park they visited and to care for John in his later years. Then eventually settled in NC closer to their children and grandchildren. Fran was a loving wife, mother, and friend as well a committed caregiver.

Fran was a God loving woman and longtime member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Fran was preceded in death by her husband, John Broda Barnes. Fran is survived by her sister, Sally (Frank) Hellyer and her three children, Cindy (James) Barrett, James (Sherry) Barnes, William (Stephanie) Barnes.

She has 9 grandchildren, William (Ashley) Barnes, Adam Barnes, Michael Teal, Jessica Barnes, Emily (Michael) Harvey, Kayleigh Barnes, Kendall Barnes, Erin Barrett, and Wyatt Barnes as well as 2 great-grandhildren, Camden and Beckett Barnes. The family would like to thank Brooke Dury of BSN of Hospice and her caregivers, Kelley Coulter, Deloris Rowland, and Katie Watson for their personalized care of Fran during the last couple years of her life. A memorial celebration is scheduled at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Mt.

Pleasant, NC, at 1 PM on October 26, 2018, with a graveside burial and memorial church service followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 32056 Herrin Grove Road, Mt. Pleasant, NC 28124.
