Francis E. “Gene” “Faz” Fazio, 89, of Bradford, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at his home. He was born on July 23, 1929 in Bradford, the only child of the late Patsy and Frances Caruso Fazio. He was a 1947 graduate of the St. Bernard High School, a 1951 graduate of Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. and in 1956 he earned his Master’s degree in Education from St. Bonaventure University, Allegany, NY.

He was a former club champion at both the Penn Hills Club and the Pine Acres Country Club. He was a former member of the Smethport Country Club where he was also a former club champion.

He was a talented sportsman who excelled at golf, bowling, hand ball, water skiing, snow skiing as well as many other activities. He enjoyed his cars and driving “fast”; he was also a good cook and he enjoyed travelling with his family and friends. He was the Otto Eldred football coach for 17 years; the basketball coach for a few years and their first golf coach.

He was also one of the inaugural Pennsylvania coaches for the first Big 30 game. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He served as a forward observer for the artillery unit in Korea from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954.

He was employed by the Otto Eldred School District as a teacher for 33 years; retiring in 1986. Mr. Fazio is survived by multiple cousins and one thousand and one friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday in the St. Bernard Catholic Church with the Rev.

Raymond Gramata as celebrant. Entombment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. The family has requested that memorial contributions in his memory be made to the St. Bernard Catholic Church building fund, P.O. Box 2394, Bradford, PA 16701.
